At the Darke County Steam Threshers Assoiction we pride ourselves in the fact we do things a little different than most of the antique machinery clubs. We start by actually planting our own wheat field right on our show grounds. During our show we start the demonstrastions by actually harvesting the wheat with an antique binder pulled by and antique tractor. The bundles of wheat are then loaded onto a wagon pulled by a team of Belgin horses. These horses are nicknamed Rocky and Chipper which are owned by the Jim Mills family. Once The wheat arrives at the seperator the threshing begins. To make our show interactive we invite the public to help pitch bundles of wheat into the seperator. The Seperator takes the wheat and breaks the grain away from the husks hence threshes it. The grain is off loaded into a wagon and the staw stacked to the side. Our straw is then baled and offered to the public for sale. You will see in the picture below and Allis Chalmers Rotobaler being demonstrated. Rocky and Chipper can also be seen about the grounds pulling a transport wagon. |
