Dynamometer
Please view the pictures below to see what our dynamometer's look like.

The first is the Power Eater. This Power Eater is owned by the Sam Myers family. This Power Eater was originally used in a diesel engine factory. It uses a DC generator and several banks of heating coils. The heating coils act as resistors. Switching on and off banks of the heating coils produces a variable load to test the engines output. This Power Eater was originally used in a diesel engine factory.

The second is a M&W Dynamometer. This device can be used to test steam engines and tractors with a belt pulley or Tractors useing a standard 540 PTO.

In the 3rd picture is our custom built Prony Brake. Driven by a large flat belt, tension is applyed to the driven pulley then transfered to a scale that displays pounds of pressure. Useing a formula the Foot pound rateing can be converted to horepower.

The 4th and final power testing device we have is the Baker Fan. The Baker Fan was developed by the A.D. Baker company to test their Steam Engines. The engineers at Baker determined the horsepower needed to turn the fan at certain speeds and could calculate the engines horsepower from the speed at which the engine could turn the fan.
